How does a Laser cartridge work?
Friday, June 12th, 2009One of the most common types of printers is the laser printer. A laser printer works by using a laser beam to carve the image of the document on the drum part of your printer. Once the document’s image is carved onto the surface, the laser cartridge or the toner spews ink over the page. At this stage, both the ink and the drum are positively charged with static electricity. Once the laser cartridge discharges its ink, then the black ink bonds with the negatively charged parts of the paper. Hence, this causes the ink to bond or to get glued on to the paper. Thus, your printout comes out as a result of this process.
Of course, one of the essential components of the laser printer is the laser cartridge. The laser cartridge contains the toner or the ink that is used for the printing process. However, contrary to popular belief, the ink is not found in liquid form. Just the opposite, the ink that is placed inside the laser cartridge is in a black powdered format. In fact, this is a physical necessity as this is the only way that the dry ink powder can be charged with positive electrostatic electricity. This way, the ink gets to bond with the image on the paper thorough the drum.
Once your laser cartridge finishes, then you will have to either replace it or refill it. There are powdered ink kits that are available on the market for refilling toners. This is usually the best option, as you can refill a laser cartridge several times. However, for some laser printers, this may not be a viable option. In that instance, it is important for you to either buy an original cartridge or to buy a compatible laser cartridge for your laser printer.
