Using Toner Technology in Printers

Monday, September 21st, 2009

One of the highpoints in computer technology is the use of printers.  It allows you to print out or copy documents with ease.  However, there are different types of printers that are available.  One of the more functional and useful types of printers is the laser printer.  A laser printer allows you to print out various types of documents with ease and with speed.

There are different brands and makes of laser printers that can be found in the market.  One of the more popular brands of laser printer is the Hewlett Packard.  It is the most common type of printer that is found, as it is generally an economic printer that is affordable to students and also to small businesses.  However, Hewlett Packard or HP is not the only type of printer that can be found.  Some other brands of laser printers include Canon, which is the first company to get a patent for a laser printer.  Besides H P and Canon, you can find other makes and brands of laser printers like Epson, Lexmark, IBM, Samsung and LG.

One of the main reasons why laser printers are so popular is due to their technology.  Underneath the technology of the laser printer lies usage of toners.  Toner is the part of the printer which contains the ink and the printing material.  Unlike other conventional types of printer inks, toners do not contain liquid ink.  Rather the ink that is found in toners is in a dry powdered form.  This is due to the fact that toner ink is applied to the paper or to the printing material by the power of electrostatic electricity.  The black ink powder in the laser toner is charged positively and the negatively charged parts of the paper absorb the black ink powder to create a printed image.
