There are three types of printers that are available on the market.  The main types of printers are:

- Dot matrix printer
- Ink Jet printer
- Laser Printer

With these 3 types of printers, you can print almost anything.  Dot matrix printers use special ink ribbon cartridges.  Some dot matrix printers are designed to print to a single page, while some of them can print on continuous forms.  The cartridge inside a dot matrix printer uses a pin wheel system and a needle head to print out the images and the text.  The printing is done dot by dot and line by line.  If the printer is designed to print on A3 or on a larger piece of paper, then the cartridges inside will be bigger as well.  These types of printers are used generally in accounting applications or in applications that use continuous form for printing.

The second type of a printer is the Inkjet printer.  Inkjet printers use special ink cartridges that squirt the appropriate color ink on the paper.  In most inkjet printers, both black and color cartridges will be present.  This way by combining four base colors with a black ink, you are easily able to create between 256 colors to 64 million colors per page.  Thus, you are able to print color graphics and animations easily.

The third type of a printer is the laser printer.  Laser printers are specific type printers that use toner cartridges to print out documents with speed.  Toner cartridges have black ink powder inside that is used to print documents.  Due to the technology used in laser printers, toner cartridges allow more than 1000 pages to be printed easily and cheaply.  You can find replacement cartridges for all three types of printers by using the internet.
